Krongut Bornstedt

Located on shores of the Bornstedter See in Potsdam and close to the Sanssouci Palace is the Bornstedt Crown Estate. Originally built as a Hohenzollern model farm, Bornstedt now serves as a unique event venue and popular destination in the region.

At the heart of the Bornstedt Crown Estate is an old manor, which was built before the Thirty Years War. The manor became the property of the Great Elector Friedrich Wilhelm in 1664. Following a fire, the estate was rebuilt by Johann Heinrich Haebelin between 1846 and 1848 in an Italian style. From 1867, Bornstedt served as the residence of Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm and his wife Victoria. Beginning in 1901, Empress Augusta Victoria’s sister Feodora lived at the estate. Under her direction, Bornstedt became a well-known meeting place for writers and painters in the Potsdam region. Prior to reunification, modern buildings were introduced. It was only in 1999 that the Bornstedt Crown Estate was restored to its former glory. Since 2001, the estate has been open to the public and hosts regular events and exhibitions.

Beer has been brewed at Bornstedt since 1689, and the home-brewed Bornstedt Buffalo is served at the estate’s Brauhaus. Available for events as well as everyday dining, the restaurant serves local Bradenburg specialties and seats 180 indoors and 150 outside. Other spaces available for hire include the malting floor in the attic above the Brauhaus, which can accommodate up to 250 people. For wine drinkers, there’s the stylish and comfortable Habels Weinscheune wine shop. Here, guests can sample delicatessen products in addition to wine and champagne. On the first Sunday of the month a lush brunch is served. The upper salons of the mansion can be rented separately as well for business events, while the historic wine cellar in the basement of the mansion now serves as a meeting room for small receptions and celebrations with up to 30 people. Other rooms such as the Sello room in the converted former bakery, laundry and slaughterhouse can also be hired for events.

The Bornstedt Crown Estate is also home to a 1,000-square metre terrace with stunning views of the lake. The adjacent Atrium also offers a beautiful lake view and can be rented for open-air events or receptions. The estate also has a market with craftsmen, including potters and goldsmiths. There is even a barber, florist and baker.
